The Product Design Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for designing and engineering mechanical systems and components that bring innovative hardware ideas to life. This role focuses on mechanical design, structural analysis, prototyping, and requirements validation. As a Product Design Engineer, you’ll ensure that our products are manufacturable, optimised for performance, safety, and cost. You will collaborate closely with electronic systems engineers and other technical staff to deliver complete, pre-production and production-ready product solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Design, model, and refine mechanical components and assemblies for new and existing products.

Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) for prototyping and production.

Conduct simulation and mechanical analysis (stress, motion, and thermal) to validate design performance.

Lead prototype builds and testing, ensuring proper fit, function, and durability.

Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to optimise designs for production.

Collaborate with electronic systems engineers to integrate mechanical designs with circuit boards, sensors, and enclosures.

Perform design reviews, incorporate test feedback, and iterate to achieve optimal performance.

Prepare and maintain technical documentation, specifications, and design reports.

Support sourcing and liaison with vendors for mechanical components and materials.

Contribute to the development of engineering standards and design practices within the organisation.

Instruct, supervise, and mentor students, trainees, and interns involved in product development or engineering projects.
